We had to trust two of our dogs into God's care this weekend. Kali, who was 12, has been in terrible pain for some time. We have been trying different medications to alleviate the pain, but they were not making a big enough difference. In my heart I knew that the time had come, but it is so hard to make the decision. Sassy, who was almost9, was a complete shock. She had been sick for about 2 days. We decided to take her in thinking she just needed some antibiotics. Then the phone call came. She had a severe kidney infection which was causing her kidneys to shut down. When they examined the blood work they also found evidence of a tumor. In further examination it was determined that the tumor was in the bladder and spreading to the kidneys. It was the sign that I needed to do the right thing. Kali and Sassy had been fast friends from day one. It was only fitting for them to go together. It is never easy. Two at a time is VERY hard. The only consolation is that they are together and they have some great people waiting to take care of them.
On a happier note, my friend's son is now off the ventilator and breathing on his own. He is still in a coma, but his movements are reactions are stronger every day. They did another CT scan and the amount of recovery is truly miraculous.
